So I'll get straight to the point. One of the first trainings I ever saw on network marketing was by Buck Reed. At the time he had just been recognized as the fastest Platinum in Prepaidlegal's 30-something year history. I believe he hit that pin level in under 4 months.
Anyways, he was on stage teaching on some of the concepts that had helped him break that record. He talked about how network marketing is like a numbers game and the faster you get through the numbers the faster you find the leaders you need to help you explode your business. He used the analogy of your contacts being like a deck of cards. Each deck of 52 cards contains 2 aces. Just 2. No matter how hard you try, you simply cannot turn a king or queen into an ace! So instead of running around trying to convince people about your business you need to sort through the cards and find the ones that are aces (people with leadership qualities or people who are looking for an opportunity and are ready to really build the business not just act like they are).
The problem most people who are just starting out in the industry run into is that their "deck of cards" (their contacts) contains only a very small number of "aces". The exact number is different for each one of us, but you (and your team) have to go through a lot of numbers before you find the aces in the beginning. That's why it will conservatively take the average, brand new person YEARS of consistent (and often brutal) work to build a solid self-sustaining team. <-This is NOT a bad thing per se, it's just NOT the message typically preached from the front of an opportunity meeting room. So, how did Mr. Buck Reed go platinum in 4 months and shatter records almost overnight?

We examined situations where people worked hard, had lots of contacts, and did everything their upline told them to do but still did not have the same or similar results that the "superstars" of our industry had.
