|Jeff Olson Leaves Prepaidlegal- Launches New MLM Company? Scandal?|
I received a call the other day from one of my friends in the industry informing me of some very interesting news. We’ve been very interested to see what would happen as Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. adjusts from being a publically traded business to being privately owned.
As with any transition there are bound to be some individuals and leaders who may or may not be happy and are bound to find one reason or another as a good enough motivation to leave. In fact, several of Prepaidlegal’s top executives have already left throughout this summer. It’s been an interesting time for sure.
I’ve been following the developments from afar out of sheer curiosity, but this latest development totally caught my attention.
It’s official. Jeff Olson, long-time leader and consultant with Prepaidlegal, has moved on to pursue new ventures.
If you are not familiar with Jeff. You definitely need to check up on him. He has shattered records throughout his career in MLM, helping develop a very impressive number of millionaires and six figure earners in our industry. He and Eric Worre originally founded a company called The People’s Network (TPN) that eventually merged with Prepaidlegal and helped create some tremendous momentum as well as creating handful of new multi-millionaires in the process (check out Brian Carruthers and Darnell Self). Eric and Jeff had both stayed on in a consultancy capacity however, Eric soon left to pursue other endeavors in the industry, but Jeff had decided to stay on and continue with the company.
Jeff is probably most widely known for his book, The Slight Edge. His philosophies on success have a had a profound influence on not only myself, but many of my friends in and out of MLM. (I highly recommend you check out his work. The Slight Edge is PHENOMENAL!)
Jeff announced on a Prepaidlegal corporate conference call that he would be transitioning out of Pre-Paid Legal to became the CEO and Founder of a new MLM company, Nerium International. A quick glance at the website will show some very impressive marketing material and a clear embrace of social media and the internet in its marketing approaches. As a former PPL associate I’m well aware of the restrictive marketing practices and rules that Prepaidlegal has historically enforced, making it quite challenging for associates to leverage the internet to build their businesses. I find it interesting to see Jeff immediately embrace new media approaches to growing his new company. I also find it interesting that Jeff’s company is in the skincare/health and wellness niche. In my opinion, health and wellness is definitely the premier category to be involved with in MLM. It does however make me wonder if Jeff feels like taking back any of the speeches he made publically and privately about those “silly potion and lotion companies”.
Be that as it may….clearly, the decision to leave Prepaidlegal was calculated and well thought out.
I definitely wish Jeff the best in this new venture. I’m sure many people will be very interested in watching how good of a job Jeff does in transitioning back into his fondest role; that of CEO.
It is hard to ignore the amount of leaders that have left Prepaidlegal within the last handful of months.
With top producers, John and Tiffany Malott joining former PPL rock star, Josh Denne at Seacret Direct and now Jeff Olson moving on to champion his own cause, questions must definitely be flying within the Prepaidlegal organization as to the direction of the company.
But what I will say is that sometimes for a company to reach a new level it has to break rank with some of those that were most influential in helping it get there in the first place and make room for a new generation of leaders.
I wish Jeff and Prepaidlegal the very best of success.
Dream-then find a way,
